Clone a record
Copy a lead, contact, account, deal, quote, contract, subscription, asset, task, meeting or call as a starting point for a new one.

Clone makes a copy of a record, so you can make a similar one quickly. You change only what's different.
For example, another customer wants almost the same order as one you sold last week. You clone last week's deal. The copy opens, and you change only the name and the date. You don't type everything again.
You can clone leads, contacts, accounts, deals, quotes, contracts, subscriptions, assets, tasks, meetings and calls.
Before you start
- To clone a record, you need the create permission for that kind of record, such as Create Deals. If you don't have it, ask your admin.
- A copy counts towards your plan's limits, like any other record. See Plans and limits.
Clone a record
- Open the record, or find it in the list.
- Click ⋮, then Clone, and confirm.
- The copy opens so you can change it. It's marked Draft.
- Change what you need and click Update.
Only you can see the copy until you click Update. It keeps the same owner as the original.
What isn't copied
Comments, files and the timeline are never copied. Some records also leave out other details:
| Record | Left out or changed |
|---|---|
| Lead | Email, second email and phone numbers. Tags. The status goes back to Pre Qualified, in the first open stage |
| Contact | Email, second email and phone numbers |
| Account | Nothing. Give the copy a new name before you save it |
| Quote | It gets a new quote number and goes back to Draft |
| Contract | It gets a new number and goes back to Draft. You pick which related items to copy, such as milestones or parties |
| Asset | You pick which related items to copy, such as work orders. The serial number and asset tag get "(Copy)" at the end |
| Task, meeting or call | The title gets "(Copy)" at the end. A task goes back to Not Started, and a meeting to Scheduled |
Troubleshooting
| You see | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Clone is greyed out | You don't have the create permission | Ask your admin for the permission |
| "A account with this name already exists." | You already have an unsaved copy of this account | Open that copy and save it with a new name first |
