Account types

Set the kinds of account your team picks from, such as Customer, Prospect, Partner or Vendor.

Updated 12 October 2026 · 2 min read

An account type says what a company is to you, such as a Customer Account, a Prospect Account or a Vendor/Supplier Account.

For example, a wholesaler works with shops that buy from them and factories that supply them. They keep Customer Account and Vendor/Supplier Account, and add "Franchise Store" for their franchise shops. Now the team can filter accounts by type and see every franchise store in one list.

Before you start

  • To see the list, you need the View Configurations permission. To add a value, you need Create Configurations. To change one or switch it off, you need Edit Configurations. To delete one, you need Delete Configurations.

If you don't have a permission you need, ask your admin.

Where it's used

  • Account Type on accounts.

The list

Go to Settings > Configurations and click Account Types. You start with 10 types, such as Customer Account, Prospect Account and Partner Account.

The Account Types tab with a row for each value, its sequence and status

Add a value

  1. Click Add Type. The Create window opens.
  2. Fill in the fields. Fields marked * must be filled in.
  3. Click Create.

The Create window for account types

FieldWhat to enter
Name *The type, up to 100 characters, such as "Franchise Store"
Sequence *Its place in the dropdown, from 1 to 100. Lower numbers come first
DescriptionWhen to use it, up to 255 characters

New values show in everyone's dropdowns straight away.

Change, switch off or delete

Click ⋮ on a value:

  • Edit changes it. The window is called Update.
  • Make it Inactive hides it from dropdowns. Records that already use it keep it. Make it Active shows it again.
  • Delete removes it. You can't delete a value that records still use.

Each one asks you to confirm first. See Configurations.

Note

Renaming a value doesn't change records that already use the old name. They keep showing the old name.

An account type used by accounts can't be deleted.
